Happy Chinese New YEAR to all! As we welcome in the year of the ox, Lets go  have YEE SANG.

Having this particular dish is sort of a “makan-makan” tradition.. Believe it or not, but “yee sang” is only practice by us here in Malaysia and also Singapore. Our chinese counterparts in Hong Kong or China do not have “yee sang” as part of their “makan-makan” traditions.

Yee Sang is a raw fish salad, which consists of raw fish (salmon or any other), shredded vegetables, herbs, spices, crunchy crackers and all the yummy sweet and sour sauce. Yee sang is believed to bring good luck, good wealth and fortune for the year to those whom tosses the yee sang.

Our first yee sang of the year was at “One Noodle” which is located @ Desa Park City’s  Water Front. The Yee Sang was quite tasty, as they made some changes to the ingredients. Instead of the normal shredded vegetables, they replaced a few of them it rocket leaves, fried dried crispy prawns and lettuce. It was definitely a very modern Yee Sang. The plum sauce and all did it’s duty of complimenting each other.

Besides the Yee Sang, another dish that caught my eye was the custom made chinese dessert. The outside of this little dessert was made of pandan flavoured sticky flour and also shredded coconut. The inside was sweet lotus paste, very very delightful. I’m not too sure if there’s going to be anymore yee sang… but you could go try thier other dishes and noodles there

Another place of interest to have a unique Yee sang would be at Great Eastern Mall’s Daidomon Japanese Restaurant. The Yee Sang here is a must try, as it has a very unique taste to it. The shredded veges were replaced with different kinds of seaweeds, and the salmon was fresh and tender. The sauce was not too sweet and the texture, blend and mix of the yee sang is on dish to remember.

If  I am not mistaken, I believe the promotion for the yee sang and thier shabu-shabu buffet is still on till the 9th of Feb 2009.  The price is pretty reasonable and the food is very very fresh. If you’re around Jalan Ampang head there before the 9th of feb.
