I’m actually quite a fan of vietnamese food. I don’t eat it as often as Japanese.. (ooOooO temptations) but I do like the vietnamese green fresh taste….

Me and the Hubby were checking out Tropicana city mall in PJ… somewhere along the LDP highway. While we where they .. we came across this really nice and cosy restaurant. The lights and the interior was indeed very very cosy and the out look of it, kinda gave us the urge to go try it out.

The little place was called “pho hoa”. It was a cute little vietnamese place that sells their famous beef noodle soups. But please do not be decieve by the pictures on the menu… they are not as it seems.

I’m not going to elobrate much on how the food was…. because to me it was not really fantastic. I do not want to bring conclusion to anyone’s mind… as taste is very subjective. I’ll let pictures speak.

“ahn yong hasehyo” is the first thing said to us, as we walked towards the little quaint korean BBQ house. This little place is owned by a korean family, making it very very much the real thing. I’ve been eyeing on this little place for quite sometime, but have not gotten the time to actually try out the food here. This little establishment, ain’t that little, it houses 2 floors for diners and the waiters here are ever ready to serve you.

As usual, the 2 of us, plus our little one was keen on a new food adventure. I did the ordering…. the pictures on the menu, don’t really tell you what you getting, but the food that arrive was more then enough to feed 2 hungry persons. I ordered the Pork belly and the marinated beef in special sauce (bulgogi).

Before the food arrived, hot burning charcoal was placed in the BBQ area. They don’t use the electrical plugs here, here they serve you the old school way and i was impress. I’ve been to one or 2 establishments where the hot plate area is usually controlled by turning a knob. But here, the smell of smoke and charcoal fills the air. The small little bowls of appeitizers were the first to grace our table. Different sorts of Kimchi and differents sorts of starters were laid infront of us. The kimchis were delicious. They even have Steamed egg as part of the appeitizers. The wide range of veggies and if i’m not mistaken, pulled stew pork was yummilicious.

After the small bowls filled our table, the raw pork belly arrived. The young waiter helped us with the BBQ-ing, ( i guess that’s the beauty of having a child with you) The smell of the pork belly was dizzily delicious. The BBQ-ing was done to the right texture. Believe me, the tastes is even more enticing. Next came the marinated beef. This was the hubby’s favourite. The meat was BBQ-ed not too well done, and not too raw, it actually melts in your mouth. The sauce was such a compliment to the beef.

Besides the main dishes, we also ordered a small bowl of seaweed soup. The soup was made with not only seaweed, but it had other seafood inside as well. The soup tasted really sweet, thanks to all the ingredients inside.

The food served here is definitely a thumbs up. I do recommend that if you’re a fan of Korean food, or even if it’s gonna be your first time, you must actually try this place. The price was pretty reasonable, and it had the 5-star hospitality. The Lady boss made you feel very much like home and she even took the time to walk customers out. That’s what I call a 5-star treatment.

Do remember before you head off….. say..”kamsamnida”

The morning was bright, sunny and shining… the birds were chirping (i think i heard some chirping) and well it was a good morning to find some delicious breakfast.

We took a ride towards the Sungei Way morning market. According to the hubby, there’s this really nice place in the market to have “chee cheong fan” (flat noodles)…So that’s where we are headed

We walked pass traders selling vegetables, fish mongers, florist and butchers… walked up a flight of stairs to a food court on the top floor. The hubby said tis particular stall has been selling “chee cheong fan” for more than 15 years….

The little stall is located at the right hand side of the food court… it’s not hard to see it, as its signage is in yellow. The food doesn’t take very long to arrive. We ordered 2 different plates of “chee cheong fan”, one with the mushroom sauce and the other the curry sauce.

The mushroom sauce has a very very distinct smell and taste of the shitake mushroom. The sauce had more texture and was quite thick. I’m a fan of mushrooms, but wasn’t really a fan of the sauce. The hubby adores this, so did the the little one. I guess it’s a personal preference. The mushroom “chee cheong fan” came with slices of mushrooms that were very very tender.

As for the one with the curry sauce, well I must say.. it was delicious. The curry sauce came with little slices of chicken and also the tastes compliments the “chee cheong fan”. As for the texture, it was the opposite of the mushroom sauce. This sauce had less texture and was much more watery. Yummilicious!

So if you’re looking for a new place to have a great breakfast, then this is a must try.

If you thought that chillies were grounded… well think again … the Chillies @ flying Chillies, will make you FLY.

We headed of toward Gardens @ Midvalley, looking for some yummy food to fill our grumbling tummies. We were actually heading toward the Taiwanese restaurant, but the queue outside was way too long…. so we strolled along…. and FLYING CHILLIES caught our eye.
We have actually been wanting to have a go at this restaurant, but we never seem to have the chance.. so today must be our lucky day.

Flying Chillies serves authentic thai food and is located on the top floor of Gardens Midvalley. Their tagline..”simply thailicious” definately caught our eye. Thai food has always been one of our favourite cuisines, and our normal haunt is usually the little thai restaurant near our place.

The waiters @ Flying Chillies were very very pleasant. From their accent, i don’t think they are our local malaysians.. :) We ordered a few dishes and patiently wait for our spread of yummy food.

First to arrive was the RED RUBY….usually this would come at the end of a meal, but we wanted it to come along with our dinner. The chestnuts which were coated with tapioca flour were crunchy and delicious. They were also very very generous with the portions. Hidden together with the chestnuts and coconut milk were strips of “nangka” (jackfruit) I’m not much of a jackfruit fan… but the flavour was very very define.

Next to grace our table was the Fish cake, the Seafood glass salad and our Seafood Tom Yam soup.

The Fish cake has a pleasant aroma and there were green beans in it. It was a HIT with my hubby. He loved the taste and the sweet and sour which compliments the dish.

The Seafood glass salad had a very very unique taste to it. The smell of greens was very very refreshing, but i must say the portion was a little too large. That was also because i had to eat it alone, the hubby didn’t really fancy the salad. The tangy, green and spicy taste to it was really an appetite opener.

As for the Tom Yam Soup… all i can saw it WOW! we both loved the tastes, the spiciness and the reach coconut flavour. It was pretty unique to have Tom Yam soup which had coconut milk in it. I am certainly glued to the soup.

Our final dish that graced our table was the Pineapple Fried Rice. I loved the taste of the rice and the pineapples and the raisins in it. And i love the presentation.

While digging into our spread, we notice what the other tables were having as well. It seems the Pineapple rice was a big hit. We also noticed a cute looking steamboat pot on a few of the tables. Apparently those were Tom Yam soups made for a larger crowd.

If you are a Thai food fan, this place is worth a try. The price is pretty reasonable and the food tingles your taste buds.

Happy Chinese New YEAR to all! As we welcome in the year of the ox, Lets go have YEE SANG.

Having this particular dish is sort of a “makan-makan” tradition.. Believe it or not, but “yee sang” is only practice by us here in Malaysia and also Singapore. Our chinese counterparts in Hong Kong or China do not have “yee sang” as part of their “makan-makan” traditions.

Yee Sang is a raw fish salad, which consists of raw fish (salmon or any other), shredded vegetables, herbs, spices, crunchy crackers and all the yummy sweet and sour sauce. Yee sang is believed to bring good luck, good wealth and fortune for the year to those whom tosses the yee sang.

Our first yee sang of the year was at “One Noodle” which is located @ Desa Park City’s Water Front. The Yee Sang was quite tasty, as they made some changes to the ingredients. Instead of the normal shredded vegetables, they replaced a few of them it rocket leaves, fried dried crispy prawns and lettuce. It was definitely a very modern Yee Sang. The plum sauce and all did it’s duty of complimenting each other.

Besides the Yee Sang, another dish that caught my eye was the custom made chinese dessert. The outside of this little dessert was made of pandan flavoured sticky flour and also shredded coconut. The inside was sweet lotus paste, very very delightful. I’m not too sure if there’s going to be anymore yee sang… but you could go try thier other dishes and noodles there

Another place of interest to have a unique Yee sang would be at Great Eastern Mall’s Daidomon Japanese Restaurant. The Yee Sang here is a must try, as it has a very unique taste to it. The shredded veges were replaced with different kinds of seaweeds, and the salmon was fresh and tender. The sauce was not too sweet and the texture, blend and mix of the yee sang is on dish to remember.

If I am not mistaken, I believe the promotion for the yee sang and thier shabu-shabu buffet is still on till the 9th of Feb 2009. The price is pretty reasonable and the food is very very fresh. If you’re around Jalan Ampang head there before the 9th of feb.

Chocolate has always been an aphrodisiac, and if you are looking for a chocolate experience… Theobroma chocolate lounge is truly one place to indulge.

I’m quite a fan of chocolates, the hubby is not, BUT… the chocolate fondue was so irresistible… that he could not stop himself from having MORE. The melted chocolates were “to die for” it was not too sweet and not too bitter. The combination of the fruits dipped into the chocolate fondue was just heart warming! The first bite was absolutely delectable. it was definitely a “Chocolate Affair”.

We wanted to go all the way with the chocolates, so we ordered more chocolate yummies. We had the “Chocolate, nuts and sultana crepe”… this was just so delicious. The crunchy nuts and the sweet sultanas blend so well with the crepe and the chocolates. the strawberries and the mixture of white, dark and milk chocolate was such an excitement.

To wash down the fantastic array of chocolates, we had… ” Snow White Frappe” and “Iceberg Lady”. Snow White must have been really enjoying chocolates, coz this particular drink was deliciously milky, chocolate-y and very very frappe. The rich taste of chocolates was really over whelming. As for the IceBerg Lady, it was milk chocolate with a scoop of ice cream.

But i must say, the chocolate fondue was the best that I’ve had in KL. I’ve tasted one some where in Hartamas, but Theobroma’s chocolate fondue wins hands down.

If ever i’m down in the pits and need a “pick-me-up” you’ll be able to find me having a chocolate affair… shhh…..

It was mom’s birthday a few weeks back, and we decided to head towards DELIcious @ Bangsar village shopping Centre. It’s one of my favourite place to go. The ambiance and the interior of this place gives you a very family, cosy and relaxing feeling. As for the food served, I’m a fan of the yummilicious foodies here.

Beside celebrating mom’s birthday, we also celebrated my bro’s belated birthday, as he has just return backed from Aussie Land. So six of us (including the little one) headed toward bangsar for lunch. Usually this place would be full by lunch time, but we arrived a little earlier and we could see people waiting in line to be usherd to their tables.

Delicious serves a variety of western, fusion and also out malaysian delicacies. The varieties of desserts are absolutely mind boggling. We started off with the French onion soup, topped with melting cheese crostini. We only ordered one to share - “the more the merrier” and also because the servings here are pretty large. We also had Caesar salad with smoked salmon. This dish is one of the reasons why i love DELIcious.

For the main courses, we had.. braised wagyu beef & mushroom pie served with a generous amount of greens.

Spicy Seafood Spaghettini, which looks so wonderfully yummies. It’s tossed in homemade sundried tomato pesto.

Mama’s beef Bolognese Spaghettini, the hubby’s favourite. Absolutely juicy.

Pan-Seared Cod served with Ratatouille. I love the flavours in the Ratatouille.

And for sides, we had potato wedges…with sour cream.

We were quite famished by the time all the food was done. I was eyeing on their dessert spread, but we had to skip that, as we were way too full. The price range here is on the average side, not too expensive and quite worth the money.
So if you’re keen on something yummies.. go try them out, if you do manage to reach the dessert, let me know what’s the best sweets on their menu.

The weather was on a gloomy side… the pouring rain has just started to stop and it was still drizzling.
So what shall we do on such a cold, wet night? Lets do BAK KUT TEH! ( i have no idea what’s it called in english)

We were around the corner (in IKEA actually) so we took a drive towards the kepong LDP toll and headed for our yummy destination. This particular Bak Kut Teh shop is along the Kepong main road. It’s somewhere near the Kepong Jusco. We’ve been patrons of this shop for quite some time (even though we live quite a distance from kepong), but i particularly like the Bak kut teh here. The reason for it is because i find the base soup very refreshing and I love it’s chinese herbs. It does not have a whole lot of flavoring (ajinomoto) in it… and the taste of herbs are just too enticing.

Besides ordering the usual Bak Kut Teh, we also ordered the “zhu tho tong”- peppered pork stomach soup. Having this during a cold evening is bound to keep you warm the rest of the night. This little dish is made out of, pepper, chinese herbs, ginger and pig stomach. To me… wow… deliciously mouth watering.

With all that meat… to make the table a little more colourful and to keep a healthy diet… we also had the lettuce mixed with oyster sauce and fried shallots. And to top everything off….. chili padi for those whom loves chillies.

Besides all the dishes that we had, this place also serves, “zhu kiok cho”- vinegared pork knuckles..and “kai zhao”-drunken chicken. The drunken chicken is a MUST TRY. I’m not much of a chicken fan, but the soup is absolutely delicious. This little dish is made out of chinese wine, chicken, red dates.. and more chinese herbs.

If you’re any where around kepong, be sure to go check them out, “Nippon Bak Kut Teh”. They are not hard to locate, so you have to keep your eyes open for the shop. They are open till the wee morning, so if you’re looking for a late night supper. go try them out.

Ipoh Chicken rice… well that’s what popped up in my head… with the body and mind, both on a holiday…the best food to have was definitly the Ipoh “nga choy kai” A simple, refreshing delicious meal and the best place to have this would be @ Restaurant Satellite, along Jalan Gasing. The little coffee shop is located at the row of shophouses, near the KWSP building in PJ. It’s the corner shop.

The Ipoh Chicken Rice is usually served with ‘taugeh’ (bean sprouts)…. i’m not a big fan of rice… so when ever i’m there i usually have the “hor fan” (flat noodles). You have the alternative to have the chicken on a different dish. It kinda makes sharing food much more enjoyable. We ordered the Steamed Chicken instead of the roasted ones. But on the overall, both tastes as YUMMY. As for the bean sprouts, they are blanched and are served with a little soy sauce, salt and pepper.. and are juicy and crunchy.
Besides the main dishes… you must also have the meat balls. They are absolutely delicious and a MUST TRY!. The meat balls are very very tender. Dipping them in the famous garlic chili (chicken rice chilies) makes it even more yummier.

Restaurant Satellite has been around for more than 40 years. It’s the kind of coffee shop which brings you back to the olden days. The atmosphere, the table settings and not to forget, oldies playing on thier really cool and definitly old radio. If you’re observant enough, you’ll find a old record player on one of the shelves. It’s one place to enjoy a slow, peaceful weekend.

We headed towards Puchong to our get our normal dosage of dim sum at Yuen Garden Dim Sum House. Be sure to be there early, as the long queue would be the first to greet you. This place serves you freshly made dim sums and its delicious savoury treats. The dishes are served in small baskets and tiny metal plates. They are brought to your table by the waiters.

First to arrive our table was the “har kau” Their “har kau” (prawn dumplings) are indeed very fresh. The prawns are wrapped in transparent glutinous flour, then steam till cooked. It’s one of the normal dishes that are served at any dim sum shops.

Next up….. “yu mai” (fish balls), which are steamed. They are many ways the fish balls are being cooked, some are steamed and some fried. If you’re not a fan of the steamed ones… than try their golden fried fish balls.

This is one of my favourite dishes.. “salad har” (fried prawn dumplings) i’m not too sure why they are called “salad har” as the only relations to salad it the mayonnaise which is served as it’s dip. The fried prawn dumpling here is one of the best that i have came across. The coating of the prawns are crunchy and not very oily. This is a MUST try!

Another normality at a dim sum shop would be “siew mai”. This little dish is made out of shrimp and pork with a little bit of fish roe sprinkled on the top. The ones here are absolutly delicious. Also another MUST try dish

Besides having small little dishes, we also ordered porridge mixed with century egg, “pei tan chook”. If you’re a person who loves century eggs with porridge, you must try this dish. The generous amount of century eggs and prawns make this dish a delectable delight.

I’m not much of dessert fan in the morning so, no desserts to show and tell, but if you’re interested, they have a range of sweet savouries and yummilicious sweets.
